Somonauk Baptist Church

Our Pastor

Pastor David Johnson

...the Bible as it is for people as they are...for the good of our city and the world.

My primary objective for pastoral ministry is “the loving leadership of people to participate through the Spirit in the incarnate Son’s communion with the Father.” This Trinitarian center for ministry and life is described well in the Apostle John’s first letter. Nearly 2,000 years ago, he wrote the following words. “Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and the Father” (1 John 2.24, ESV). My privilege as a Pastor is to tell the same Story that was announced by the Apostles. Namely, that life is found in being united by the Spirit to the Father through Jesus, His only begotten Son. Even more amazing for me is that I get to participate in this Story, week after week, with my favorite local church on the planet, Somonauk Baptist Church! SBC is the church in which I was raised, baptized, and united in marriage to my wife. It is my grateful honor to return to this place where my participation in the Story of stories began.

David’s post high school training includes Calvary Bible College, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

David delights in spending time with his family, wife Yulinda, daughters Dalin, Aletheia, and Junia, and sons Silas and Stuart; reading, the Scriptures, Church History, about Church Fathers (especially Athanasius and Irenaeus), Pauline Theology, and works on a distinctively Christian Ecclesiology. Hearing and Seeing the Story of Redemption that God is telling through music and film. Somonauk Baptist Church as we learn to participate together in God’s Story of Redemption.
